In NC machine center, tool magazine and automatic tool changer are two partsmating for it specifically to accomplish reserving and automatic tool changing ofcutter. Globoidal cam is the most key part in automatic tool changer with cam, itcontrols tightening tool of manipulator, tool changing and manipulator’s resetting.When the chain tool magazine researched in this paper works, the cylindrical camdrives rotation of pulley to accomplish chain rotation. So research and analysis designof the spatial cam employed in tool magazine and automatic tool changer aresignificant. The main contents studied in this paper including:First, based on the basic theory of globoidal cam, the force condition of globoidalcam and index plate roller is analysed during manipulator accomplish completeworking cycle employed in automatic tool changer. The factor of influence rollerforce magnitude is found, it can afford theory basis for the index plate roller selected.Second, processing principle of globoidal cam processed by NC machine tool isstudied, the mathematical model of angular displacement calculated of cutter enter,exit are established, resolved by using numerical method. Thereby the problem ofconfirm angular displacement of workbench in designing NC machine tool whichprocess globoidal cam is resolved.Third, the globoidal cam which driven link is six rollers that employed inautomatic tool changer with cam is designed, and the motion of the mechanism isanalysed. At the same time exercise the curved surface molding function of Pro/E tomake globoidal cam three-dimensional CAD molding, and the feeding path of cutteris analysed.Fourth, the theory knowledge of cylindrical cam which controls chain wheelrotation in chain cutter magazine is studied, the surface equation of cam workingprofile,conjugate contact equation of cam and roller’s working surface are established.Based on the theory a no stick cylindrical cam designed, and three-dimensionalmolding of the cam mechanism is made, meshing motion’s simulation and analysis,the process method and project of the cylindrical cam are established.
