With the development of economy and the increasing of population, the amountof municipal solid waste (MSW) in China has increased year by year. It has been anurgent affair to manage MSW timely, safely and sanitarily. The sanitary landfill hasbeen widely utilized to dispose MSW at home and abroad, because it has someadvantages such as processing simple, less investment and larger capacity. But theprevention and control of the landflll leachate which is considered as a main pollutionsource of environment, has be a difficult problem during the development of landfilltechnology. The landfill leachate is the by-product of the sanitary landfill. It will causeserious impact on the environment and the human health unless it has been dealt withproperly. Therefore, this thesis does research on the transportation and tansformationof the water and pollutants in the leachate to provide the basis guidance for preventionand control the landfill leachate.Compared with several other models, the Hydrus model first has been chosen tosimulate the water storage in landfill final cover, the migration of chloride ion in theleachate which is leaked at the bottom of landfill and discuss the transportation andadsorption degradation of COD in the landfill internal part. The experiment resultsshow that the obtained simulation data accord with the actual experiment data gettingfrom integrated water environment experimental field form Wuhan University, theSquirrel Hill landfill and the landfill experiment system from Liaoning TechnicalUniversity respectively. Then, the Hydrus has been used to simulate the concentration changes of chlorideion at the leakage point at the bottom of the Squirrel Hill landfill in the30years, theconcentrations change of chloride ion in the third year in the vertical layers and theconcentration changes of chloride ion in the70m plane in the30years. Through thesimulation, the concentrations of chloride ion at each time and each plane can beshown so that we can find the leakage point by the concentration of chloride ion when the accident happens. The simulation provides an important guide for knowing thepollution situation of leachate leakage, preventing and controlling leachate leakageand solving the problem of leakage.
