As one of basic industries, machine tool industry always shows the industrialdevelopment level of one contry.With the development of modern industry,the performance ofmachine tool is required higher and higher.But there is a long distance between home andabroad in this industry,such as high precision.By taking the the beam of one vertical grinder as the research object,this paper first setup the 3D model and finite elememt model for it;then due to the results of static analysis andmodal analysis of the beam,the rationality of its original structure is verified;at last the qualityof the beam is reduced by the optimal design,and along with it the cost will bereduced.Concrete content is as follow:1.The study background and significance of this paper are described, the research statusof machine tools in home and abroad and the stages of modern design idea are introduced.2.The 3D model of the beam is set up by SolidWorks,and then the finite elementanalysis model is set up by ABAQUS after being formated.3.The strain and stress of the beam is analyzied on the most dangerous condition.Theresults show the the rationality of its original structure.So,the structure can be optimized.4.The modal analysis of the beam is conducted in ABAQUS,and the results show thenatural frequence and vibration mode of the beam.The results also show the the rationality ofits original structure.So,the structure can be optimized.5.Three paramaeters of the structure of the beam is chosen to make the sensitivityanalysis,the results can be the reference of strucure optimition.6.The structure of the beam is optimized due to the optimal design. The quality of thebeam is reduced 6.9%.At last,the results of optimal design is cerified.
