With the progress of society, electricity has become the necessary resources to human.There arelots of thermal power stations in China:74.79%of the generating units are thermal powergenerating units. Large amounts of SO2will be emitted when it runs. SO2is a commonatmospheric pollutants, it has a pungent odor. SO2is also a common chemical raw material. It canbe used for the preservation of beer and other beverages, for antiseptic treatment of the material,for antioxidant treatment, and used be food bleaching agent. Serious damage to the environmentwill be caused if the SO2discharged directly into the atmosphere. And it will loss a large numberof industrial raw materials.For the idea of waste reduction, it must be processed and recycled.Compared to traditional calcium desulfurization, magnesium desulfurization has a higherdesulfurization activity, and difficult to scale. By chemical treatment can convert magnesiumsulfite made by the process of magnesium desulfurization to magnesium sulfate. And recovery ofmagnesium sulfate has significant economic benefits.The studying on oxidation of magnesium sulfite has started much earlier in foreign countries. Inthe1980s, people began to study on it. Because of its high casting–there are rarelymagnetite–magnesium desulfurization is difficult to promote in foreign countries. As for themagnesium desulfurization exploring is later in China. It has not been reported before the21stcentury. Although it starts latter and less, dealing with magnesium desulfurization and relatedproducts has higher study sufficiency in China.90percent of the world’s magnetite is in China. InChina the magnesium sulfite oxidation still needs further research.This article from three angles to studies the oxidation of magnesium sulfite: laboratory experiment,pilot experiment and field test. Research the oxidation process influence by composition ofcatalyst, pH, catalyst concentration, aeration quantity, temperature, time and so on. Through fieldexperiment evaluates the actual effect of the catalyst.Conclusion:(1) Catalyst mixed by Co and Al has good effect on oxidation of magnesium sulfite. magnesium sulfate content can reach24.49%after4hours when the concentration of catalyst is0.008mol/L.(2) pH has a certain influence on the reaction. The oxidation rate is highest when the pH is7.Temperature has little effect on improving reaction rate. In the same condition, the contention ofmagnesium sulfate can improve from22.95%to23.52%when the temperature enhances from10℃to25℃。(3) As the result of cycle experiment, it should add more cobalt ions during practical applications.(4) The level of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate crystal gets form experiment can reach thecriteria of Chinese industry.(5) A good result had got from laboratory experiment and pilot experiment.(6)The cost of dealing with a ton of Magnesium sulfite had changed form¥36.02to¥18.59after cycle processing.
