Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) is a new type oforganic-inorganic nano molecules. This paper introduces the latest researchprogress of POSS. Research progress of POSS/polymer composites are mainlyintroduced.The hexamethylendiamine methyl phenyl POSS(AHAMPPOSS) wassynthesized by hydrolysis condensation. POSS/PU and POSS/unsaturatedpolyester resin composites were preparation. The mechanical properties andthermal properties of composition were also studied. The main content of thisdissertation is as follows:AHAMTES and PTES as raw material, water as solvent, TEAOH ascatalyst, AHAMPPOSS were synthesized by hydrolysis condensation and yieldwas up to80%. The structures of POSS were characterized by the elementanalysis, back titration, FTIR, XRD, EDS, MS. Through the SEM figure foundthat there are two kinds morphology of POSS. One is granular, another is flakes.The size of granular is between at the200nm-500nm. Residual rate is as high as57%at800℃by TG. The influences of the reactant ratio, temperature and timeon product yield were discussed.The PTMG-TPU and PEG-TPU were synthesized. The hard segmentconcentrations of TPU were30%,35%,40%,45%. The structures of TPU werecharacterized by FTIR and NMR. The POSS/TPU composites were prepared.The structure of POSS/TPU composites was characterized by FTIR and NMR.The mechanical properties and thermal properties of POSS/TPU compositeswere discussed by universal testing machine and thermal gravimetric analysis. Studys found the tensile strength of POSS/PTMG-TPU and POSS/PEG-TPUincreases along with the increase of the content of POSS. The elongation ofPOSS/PTMG-TPU and POSS/PEG-TPU decrease along with the increase of thecontent of POSS.The POSS/unsaturated polyester resin composites were prepared. Themechanical properties and thermal properties of POSS/unsaturated resincomposites were discussed by universal testing machine and thermal gravimetricanalysis. Studys found that with the increase of the content of POSS, theelongation of POSS-unsaturated polyester resin increases, then decreases. Withthe increase of the content of POSS,the tensile strength of POSS-unsaturatedpolyester resin increases. The heat resistance of POSS-unsaturated polyesterresin is higher than pure unsaturated polyester resin. And with the increase ofPOSS content show increasing trend.
