Silicon quantum dots have attracted particular interest in recent decades because oftheir special properties including good fluorescence properties, functionalization andlow toxicity. This paper explores the preparation, properties and applications of siliconquantum dots and their complexes, including the following:(1) Synthesis of fluorescent silicon quantum dots by electrolytic usingmonocrystalline silicon as the anode.(2) Synthesis of SiQDs based SiNSs with the assistance of ethylenediamine andacrylic acid, under UV irradiation. such nanocomposites both fluorescence andupconversion properties, and the fluorescence emission spectra through the responsetime to regulate.Significantly, besides the surface dependent (N modified surface)down-converted PL, the SiNSs were demonstrated to possess unique PLup-conversion.We further demonstrated that the dots spacing (distance between SiQDs)less than5nm was necessary for the PL up-conversion, and then we put forward themechanism model for the PL up-conversion.(3) Synthesis of metal/SiQDs hybrid dots (M/SiQDs, M=Au, Ag, and Pt) byreducing various metal salts with SiQDs. The Au/SiQDs hybrid dots show high catalyticactivity on the selective oxidation of cyclohexene. And Pt@SiQDs hybrid dots for directmethanol fuel cells, have a high electrocatalytic activity.
