With the rapid development of living standard and digital printing technology, people begin to have higher and higher demand on the ink. Compared with pigment inks, dye inks have many advantages such as large colour gamut, high colour brilliance, easy ink formulation, stable to produce ink, difficult to jam print nozzle, large choice, low cost, good wear resistance, etc. But the ozone fastness and light fastness are very bad, which limit their wide application. So it is very important to develop the highly weather durable and water soluble ink-jet dyes.Three bisazo black dyes of highly weather durable and water soluble (B1, B2and B3) were synthesized and innovated their synthesis conditions and the routes. Also test the absorption spectrum, electrochemical property, solubility and water resistance of molecules B1, B2, B3. The results showed the dye molecules B1, B2, B3are very accord with weather durable and water soluble ink-jet dye application requirements. Also the weather resistance of the dye B1, B2, B3were tested on the different types of printing paper. The test results showed that they all have good weather resistance and the specific order is B3> B2> B1. At the same time above results were explained by theoretical calculation. At last the conclusion has been proposed that when we designed the dye molecules we can introduce the rotating or vibrating groups, by doing this it can promote the occurrence of internal conversion, release the excited state energy quickly then improve the weather resistance of the ink-jet dye molecules.Three anthracene-pyridone magenta dyes of highly weather durable and water soluble (M1, M2and M3) were synthesized by introducing sulfonic acid group, carbonyl propyl sulfone group, naphthalene carbomethoxy group and double-thiol group. The molecules M1, M2and M3have not been reported before. Also test the absorption spectrum, electrochemical property, weather resistance, solubility and water resistance of molecules M1, M2, M3. The results showed the dye molecules M1, M2, M3are very accord with weather durable and water soluble ink-jet dye application requirements.Finally, a black ink-jet dye B3and a magenta ink-jet dye M1were chosen preferentially and compared them with existing commercial dyes on weather resistance. The test results showed that the dye B3and M1are far superior to the commercial dyes on weather resistance. They have excellent ozone fastness and light fastness and have the basis of industrialization. Among them, the magenta ink-jet dye M1has been carried out industrial production.
