Due to the wide applications of metal-organic complexes in photoelectricity, magnetism, catalysis, ion exchange, adsorption and molecular recognition etc., investigation on themetal-organic complexes constructed by transition metals ions and organic ligands is an activeresearch field in coordination chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and crystal engineering inrecent years. In this thesis, by the use of 2,3,5,6-tetrabromoterephthalic acid (H2TBTA) andcombination with the auxiliary ligands [2,2’-bipyridine (bipy), 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane(BPP), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)] assembling with transitional metal ions, we havesynthesized 10 novel metal-organic complexes. All of these complexes have been determinedby single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The main contents are as follows:1. Two novel Cd and Cu metal-organic complexes based on H2TBTA and bipy ligandshave been successfully assembled in the same experiment situation:[Cd2(bipy)4(TBTA)(HTBTA)2] (1) and {[Cu(bipy)(TBTA)(H2O)]·H2O}n(2). Complex 1 isbinuclear supramolecular structure, while complex 2 shows diferent structural motif of the1D chain. There are many hydrogen bonding interactions in these metal-organic complexes, which may further stabilize coordination structure.2. By use of the difusion method, The reactions of H2TBTA ligand, BPP ligand andtransitional metal ions gave rise to five metal-organic complexes: [Zn(BPP)(TBTA)]n(3) and[M(BPP)2(TBTA)(H2O)2]n[M=Cd(4), Mn(5), Co(6), Ni(7)]. Due to transition metal ionscoordination ability is different, BPP ligand is flexible and can adopt different conformations,metal-organic complexes 3-7 show diferent structural motifs from the 1D chain (4-7) to the2D grid (3) metal-organic networks.3. Based on transitional metal ions, H2TBTA ligand and phen ligand, three novelmetal-organic complexes have been successfully assembled:{[M(phen)2(TBTA)]·CH3OH·H2O}n[M=Cu(8), Cd(10)] and [Co(HTBTA)2(phen)2] (9). Their crystal structures show different structure motifs: 1D chain (8 and 10) and mononuclearmolecule (9) metal-organic networks, respectively. The 3D supramolecular structures of thecomplexes 8-10 are constructed by hydrogen bonding andπ-πinteractions.
