The results show that the city is currently the main source of carbon emissions, Tianjin asa major industrial city of China and the economic center of the North China, the pressure ofcarbon emissions is higher than ordinary cities. Therefore, whether Tianjin can be transitedsuccessfully in the future, embarking on a low-carbon development path for the sustainabledevelopment is particularly important. Before choosing the low-carbon paths, it is necessaryto measure the carbon emissions and evaluate the current situation of Tianjin. Only anaccurate measurement and a reasonable assessment of the situation can make the correctchoice of transformation paths. In the study, the theory of urban low-carbon development in domestic and abroad wasreviewed, related practices were assessed, and the progress of the current domestic andinternational theory and practice were summed up. On this basis, the carbon emissions statusof Tianjin was measured, and the related evaluation was made according to the measureresults; the situation and target before 2020 in Tianjin were developed considering the practiceboth in domestic and abroad. Based on this goal, the selection of future low-carbontransformation paths in Tianjin has been studied.Firstly, the current situation in carbon emissions of the overall and four sub-areas inTianjin, such as construction, transportation, production and life, were measured by building amodel, and the relevant quantitative results were obtained; then, through the use of principalcomponent analysis, correlation analysis, the status of carbon emissions was conducted acomprehensive evaluation, and the problems of current development was identified.Secondly, according to the results of carbon emissions measuring in Tianjin, consideringlow-carbon development objectives of cities at the same level in domestic and abroad and thedevelopment potential of Tianjin, scenario analysis was used to develop the Tianjin City’soverall development goals and four development objectives in three kinds of developmentscenarios of the inertia, the relative separation, absolute separation, and the optimizationoptions were made based on development potential of Tianjin and the feasibility of the goals. Finally, the alternative paths of the future low-carbon transformation have been studiedbased on the future low-carbon development goals of Tianjin and advanced practicalexperience of cities both in domestic and abroad. According to the current problems and itsown strengths in development of Tianjin, respectively, optional transformation paths are givenin four sub-areas of the construction, transportation, manufacturing and life, conforming withthe development trend of technologies, new low-carbon development paths such as carbonsinks, carbon capture and using of clean energy, were timely proposed in order to provide newdirections and motivation for the future low-carbon transformation of Tianjin throughtechnological innovation and innovative channels.
