There are two significant problems in the treatment of Naturally Colored Silk. Fisrt,the pretreating technology is still immature, and natural pigment would be lost withdegumming. Second, natural pigment has seriously discoloring or fading situation aftersunlight. In this paper, the yellow-red Naturally Colored Silk as raw materials, experimentmethods such as cross-linking, grafting and steaming were used for color protectingtechnology. It was discussed that the difference on relative weighting, K/S and colorcharacteristic value of silk fiber by different pretreat technologies compared with theunhandled silk fiber, and the self-made silicone finishing agent is used to explore theimpact of color darkened and light fastness of silk fiber.The results showed that:(1) It can fix part of sericin and retain the original colorcharacterstics in some extent by using Glutaraldehyde and Ceric Ammonium Nitrate.(2)The technique of first cross-linking then grafting is a better way than the other. Whenamount of grafting agent are the same,the K/S and color characteristic value of silk fiberhas little effect by changing of the amount of cross-linking agent, and fiber surface is moresmoother.(3) The high-temperature steaming, combined with Thiourea and Glutaraldehyde,can transfer natural pigment from sericin to silk fibroin, the process of first cross-linkingthen steaming is the best.(4) By using of Glutaraldehyde vapor processing, sericin fixingincreased with the amount of Glutaraldehyde increasing, and the value of colorcharacteristics has little influence from steaming temperature and time.(5) After steaming,the sequence of grafting and cross-linking affect fiber surface more greatly, and the fibersurface is much more smooth by first cross-linking then grafting.(6)The silicone emulsionself-made has well stability and significant impact in depth, when the dosage of siliconeemulsion in50g/L~200g/L, the light fastness of Naturally Colored Silk is almost improvedtwo levels.
