Study On The Development Of Coal Mining Technology In Shanxi After The Foundation Of The PRC

The coal resources are very abundant in Shanxi and there are six main big coalfields, namely, Datong, Ningwu, Hedong, Xishan, Huoxi and Qinshui in the whole province. Besides, there are five areas such as Hunyuan, Wutai, Fanshi, Pinglu and Yuanqu which scattered coal is exploited in. Up to the end of2007, the proven reserves of coal resources is268.816billion ton and the estimated reserves of coal resources below2000m is389.918billion ton in Shanxi Province. As one of the substantial energy production bases in China, Shanxi has made great contribution to the national development and construction. To put in the words of Niu Renliang, the vice governor of Shanxi Province:Shanxi had produced more than12billion ton of coal,“if carried by railway wagons, these coaches can circle the Earth for three times”. Meanwhile, the extensive economic developing model during the past years brings massive amounts of damage to Shanxi, for example, appalling waste of coal resources and associated minerals, pollution and environment deterioration, geological disasters happening with increasing frequency, serious river pollution and surface collapse in coal field, etc.It is widely understood that the coal resources industry is the pillar industry in Shanxi whereas coal mining is the most essential part in the whole coal industry. How to develop the environmental-friendly coal mining techniques and change the coal mining industry from the extensive model to the high-efficient and safe model which supported by high-tech will directly influence the capability of sustainable development of the coal resources industry in Shanxi Province. At this critical moment when Shanxi becomes the comprehensive reform trial place in the national economic transition for the resources-oriented areas and coal resources integration completed smoothly, it possesses very important signification to study the development of the coal mining techniques. This thesis studied the development of the coal mining techniques in Shanxi Province after the foundation of People’s Republic of China. Firstly, in combination with the relating theories in the field of coal exploration and extraction and based on resources from spot investigation and literatures consulting, it analyzes the historical developing process of the coal mining techniques in several main coalfields in Shanxi. Secondly, it states the necessity of developing the environmental-friendly coal mining techniques and points out the problems existing in developing the new techniques in Shanxi, for instance, lacking of skilled talents, funds shortage, imperfect techniques study, separation of mining right and gas exploiting right and so on. Finally, it proposes some remedial measures regarding to putting forward the developing of environmental-friendly coal mining techniques to an upper level.
