Currently, diesel is one of the most widely used engine fuel in China. But the presence of nitrogen-containing organic compounds has muchbad effect on the production and environment. In order to adapt to newenvironmental regulations and improve the quality of diesel fuel, nitridemust be removed as possible. At present, removal nitrogen methodsinclude hydrotreating and non-hydrotreating. Traditional HDN process iscomplex and costly, and non-HDN process has many restrictions, so it isvery important to look for new ways to remove nitrogen. Ionic liquid asrecyclable, non-volatile, can be designed to meet the concept of greenchemistry and resource-saving society. It is considered to instead ofconventional organic solvents;it is attracting more and more concernsfrom academia and industry. The paper described research background of ionic liquid andillustrates types, synthesis, basic properties, analytical chemistry, organicsynthesis, extraction, oil desulfurization and other areas of application. Italso pointed out the high cost, difficult separation and recycling and otherfactors to limit their industrial applications. For these problems inapplications, this paper studied a series of acidic ionic liquid. Cheap rawmaterials was used to synthesize non-volatile, low melting point of urea-choline chloride, urea-zinc chloride, N-methyl-imidazolium hydrogensulfate salt and [(CH3CH23NH][HS04] ionic liquids. Then a strong acid1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate salt and1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate salt were synthesized using atwo-step synthesis, characterized by FT-IR,1HNMR to measure physicaland chemical properties and studied acidic ionic liquid by infrared probe. The results show that imidazolium ionic liquid has a lower melting point, low viscosity and strong acid. In the fourth part of the paper described six ionic liquids asextraction agent to examine the various experimental factors on thediesel from Jingmen Petrochemical removal basic nitrogen. Impact ofvarious factors on denitrification rate in the order is oil ratio> water/ionic liquid volume ratio> temperature> response time. Thedenitrification results show that as to imidazole acidic ionic liquid atroom temperature,0.5h of reaction time, and oil ratio and volume ratiounder certain conditions, the removal nitrogen can reach more than70%.And three times in re-use even after of them can reach more than40%.However, the acid of urea-choline chloride and urea-zinc chloride is notstrong; the viscosity is so large that nitrogen removal is not ideal. At last, the paper pointed out that the problems of ionic liquid usedin the current research with removal nitrogen. It also shew that with thedevelopment of technology and in-depth study of ionic liquid, theindustrial age of ionic liquid will surely come. Ionic liquid applied to thebasic nitrogen removal from diesel fuel will certainly be possible.
