Surface quality is one of the most important quality indexes for strips, and it is theimportant factor of marketing competitiveness, today more and more domestic and foreign ironand Steel Corporation focused on Surface quality because of increasingly quality requirements.Because of rolling process parameters are not reasonable, it caused roughness don’t even on stripsurface, it is called edge defects. Edge defects are the main cause for the problems of Surfacequality.This article is aimed at edge defects of skin pass mill, the finite element model of striprolling is built by MSC.MARC software. By FEA model, important factors of surface qualitywere analyzed. It supplied Theoretical basis for surface quality control and roller optimization, ithad the important theoretical significance and practical application value. The main works of thisarticle are as follow:(1) On the basis of the classic hertz theory and rolling engineering theory, rolling FEAmodel for skin pass mill was built by FEA solfware.FEA model can simulated rolling in reality,and supplied important data for analysis of edge defects and optimization of roller.(2) Discussed the many problems of finite element simulation of skin pass rolling,including contact problems、remeshing problems、load case problems and so on. In order toaccuracy、general、and reliance of results of FEA model.(3) On the basis of FEA model, factors of face quality of strip were analyzed. Includingroller shape、force of bending roll、width of strip and so on. It supplied Theoretical basis for edgedefects analysis and optimization of roller shape.(4) Based on the dynamic finite element model,analyzed the rolling process from wholesituation, and discussed the influence parameters to contact stress between rolls and rolling force,including the friction coefficient, rolling reduction, rolling speed and so on.Based on the above research, the reasons of edge defects were analyzed, and the rollershape was optimized by the research.
