Spiral bevel gears are so important in mechanical industry in recent years. They are widely used. It is necessary to measure and adjust the radial runout,high runout and angle of the blade located on the cutter in order to ensure the quality of the spiral bevel gears and the life-span of milling cutter, so it is essential to improve precision and efficiency of messurement of the spiral bevel cutter.The blade located on the cutter is messured by contact in recent years. Tradional messurement method used the dual-probe to meseure the radial runout and high runout.Meanwhile,it used mechanical instrument and manual reading and recording. This method was low efficiency and measurement precision only reached1μm. New intelligent inspection instrument for spiral bevel gear cutter which applyed integrated probe and digital instrument improved measurement efficiency and precision.But because of contact force, errors of measurement system are added. Especially errors of measurement system meeted high precison are quickly added. This paper uses laser displacement sensor to measure radius runout and angle of assembly cutter by non-contact for solving these questions. Becuse the method avoids contact force, it improves precision,stability and efficiency of messurement system.Meanwhile,it avoids the abrasion of cutter.This measurement method has a bright future.The main contents are as following:(1) The laser displacement sensor is used to measure radius runout and angel of the blade located on the cutter, and the measuring data is transmited to the computer through USB or RS232interface.(2) The design of data analysis in software system.The software can automatically separate and extract the measuring data according to different measuring requirement. Meanwhile,measuring data is exactly judged by software, the blade that should be adjusted is adjusted by adjustment advice which is given by software.(3) The design of data management in software.The cutter information database has been established by Access database. The cutter information database can be operated by ActiveX Data Objects of Visual C++6.O.They can be displayed or printed easily.(4) The function integration of the software.The whole functional modules have been developed by Visual C++6.0,and each of functions of the software has been validated by experiment.
