Plant Stellera chamaejasme L., belongs to the family of Thymelaeaceae. It is a poisonous plant species widely spreading constantly on the grassland in western China. In some cases that the serious meadow degradation occurs. It has long been used traditionally as a herbal remedy the treatment of tinea, stubborn skin ulcers, chronic tracheitis, and tuberculosis. Recently it has been found that Stellera chamaejasme L. possesses obvious therapeutic effect on sheep’s acariasis. In order to develop a high efficiency but low-toxicity miticide, the study on chemical constituents of the root of. stellera chamaejasne L. has been carried out.In this study, the roots of S. chamaejasme L. were air dried, ground into powders, and extracted with95%EtOH at room temperature. The extraction was partitioned successively in50%EtOH, then extracted with petroleum ether, chloroform and ethyl acetate. All the three extractions have been isolated and purified by utilizing column chromatography, preparative TLC and recrystallization techniques respectively. Sucrose was isolated from the ethanol extraction, umbelliferone was isolated from the chloroform extraction and a new compound named5,7-dihydroxy-3-[4’,6’,8’-trihydroxyphenyl-2’-oxo-ethyl] chromone was isolated from ethyl acetate extraction. Their structures were elucidated mainly on the basis of their IR,1DNMR(1HNMR,13CNMR),2DNMR (HSQC, HMBC) spectroscopic data and reference literatures.5-Amino-6-nitroquinoln、Quinoline、5-Fluorouridine、2,4-Dimethyl-5,6-dimethoxy-8-aminoquinoline、2-Piperidinone、 trans-1,2-Dibenzoylethylene were identified from the genus of the root of stellera chamaejasne L. for the first time by GC-MS.
