Metallurgy industry of uranium mining produced a large amount of waste-oreand tailings. These tailings and waste-ore released large amounts of radon and itsdaughters in the process of the tailings accumulation, which caused long-termpotential radioactive pollution to the environment. The radon diffusion in theatmosphere is very complex, and it is related to the radon emanation of the uraniumtailings impoundment, topography characteristics of the reservoir area, atmosphericwind fields and other factors. Radon atmospheric diffusion of uranium tailings andenvironmental effect research are the important subjects of air pollution control andenvironmental prevention of the uranium tailings impoundment area, which has agreat significance to the environment of uranium tailings impoundment area andpersonnel security.(1) Introduced the migration rule of radon, the research methods and status ofradon atmospheric diffusion, as well as the protective distance of uranium tailingsimpoundment and the national standard of the effective doses for public.(2) Introduced the radon emanation of the uranium tailings impoundment and theharm of radon, and analyzed the various factors on the migration of the radon in theatmosphere, such as wind speed, wind direction and land surface roughness.(3) Described the governing equations, turbulence models of the radonatmospheric diffusion and the numerical simulation methods of air flow and radonatmospheric diffusion.(4) Based on ground type uranium tailings of different wind speed, differentheight and different of radon exhalation rate, the numerical simulation method was used to study the influence of atmosphere wind speed, uranium tailings height and theradon exhalation rate on radon atmospheric diffusion and the concentrationdistribution. Finally, analyzed radon pollution range and degree under different factors, the environment effect of radon and the protective distance of uranium tailingsimpoundment.
