With coal-tar pitch as raw materials, binder pitches were modified by adding five kinds ofadditive. Modified pitch cokes were prepared at1150℃.Binding cokes were characterized bycarbonization yield, coking value, oxidation loss rate, CO2reactivity, TG, XRD and SEM. Theresults show that aromatic nitro-compounds substantially enhance coking condensation ofcoal-tar pitch. Boron compound and fluoride effectively improve the microstructure of pitchcokes. The textures of modified pitch coke are denser. The oxidation resistance of modified pitchcokes has been evidently improved. These additives effectively changed the oxidation behaviorof modified pitch binding coke. The oxidation resistance order of modified pitch cokes from highto low is as follow: boron compound, fluoride, aromatic nitro-compound. CO2reactivity ofboron compound modified pitch cokes has been reduced by84%~90%.Carbon black hasnegative effect on the improvement of oxidation resistance of pitch cokes.
