Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (referred to as PAHs), which referred to a class of inactive and stable organic compounds that contains two or more linear, angular or cluster-like aromatic rings in the molecules. It is the first discovered and most studied environmental Carcinogens.Up to now, the number of already discovered Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives totaled up to over400kinds. PAHs are born with toxicity, bioaccumulation, and semi-volatile, and can be persistent in the environment, which posed a grave threat to human health, and has aroused widespread concerns, so the development of fast, reliable, sensitive detection of the aromatics is of great significance to improve the environment and to ensure human health.Under certain conditions, PAHs in the surface dust can become secondary pollution sources in two ways:migrate to the atmosphere through evaporation or re-suspension; washed with surface run-off to receiving water bodies. In this dissertation, we primarily studied the seasonal distribution and the functional zone differences of PAHs in Chengdu Chenghua surface dust.1. Established and optimized the analysis methods of high performance liquid chromatography detection of phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene. Using Thermo Hypersil Green column which specified column for PAHs to separate three pairs of isomers of PAHs effectively.2. Ultrasonic extraction was used to extract PAHs from the samples, in-suite prepared silica gel chromatography columns was applied to purify the by-gained PAHs. Investigate the impact of different eluent (dichloromethane, hexane, methanol, acetonitrile) on the elution of PAHs to determine the best eluent and the elution volume. Six kinds of PAHs in real samples was determined by the developed method, the results show that the reproducibility is excellent, precision is less than2%; detection limit is0.16×103~0.47×10-3μg/L; the recovery rate of each component from real samples varied from72%to95%; Which shows that the method can meet need of the detection of phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo [a] anthracene, chrysene in dust samples.3. With the established methods, the contents of six kinds of PAHs (phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, benzo [a] anthracene, pyrene, chrysene) from different functional areas in the Chenghua district of Chengdu were detected. The results showed that the six PAHs could be detected and of which the total content varied between1.57μg/g and7.15μg/g, respectively. Analyzing the obtained results, we found there are obvious differences among the content of PAHs from different functional areas, transport routes were found to be the most contented areas, according to PAHs distributions, the content of road dust in Chengdu may be mainly affected by the impact of transport activities. The results also showed that motor vehicle emissions, coal products and wood combustion, and combustion of natural gas and oil products were the major potential sources of PAHs.
