Ball mill is widely used in metallurgy, ceramics, cement,corhart and other field ofindustry. The particle size and the rotating speed of mill ball are two important factors thataffect the efficiency of ball milling. At the beginning of grind, the rotating speed of the millball should be adjusted to make grinding media work in the cataract state. With the grindingprogress running, the material particles are decreasing,so the speed of mil ball should beadjusted to make the ball’s movement gradually transfer into the cascading state. Accordingto the preparation technology of the different particle size,a rule of the rotating speed of ballmill was determined and an speed regulation control system for the ball mill based on imageprocessing was designedHere an approach was presented to detect the size of powder in the mill ball by themethod of computer image processing. Take the image of particles by camera and convertit into digital image by image collecting card.Then the image is processed by an imageprocessing software,which includes picture’s preprocessing,edge detection, particle labeled,size analysis,and finally the size distribution can be proposed. The speed of cylinder isadjusted automatically by the computer to make ball mill work at better speed according tothe corresponding relationship between the average particle size and ball speed.In order to make the ball work at the specified speed,the PID controller whoseparameter were setted by the method of trail-and-error was used to control the speed.Thesimulation result showed that the ball mill can work stably at the given speed.The whole motion control system of ball mill was carried out by a Siemens S7-300PLCof Siemens.The software of STEP7can be used to compile the control program higheffectively with its structure compiling method.In addition, the intelligent control system ofthe ball mill was set up which consisted of the PROFIBUS-DP communication between PLCand transducers,MPI communication between WINCC and PLC, pictures of Process Control based on WinCC....
