The thesis is focus on the development of a shoe-last design system. A digitalshoe-last model is formed based on the scanned data of the shoe-last surface. Thefiltering method was used to reduce noise points. According to the geometricstructure of the shoe-last, algorithms were established to extract the bottom solelength, bottom contour, the plantar circumference, the tarsal circumference, and theheel height automatically. The extracted features were taken as parameters fordesign of the new shoe-last. Meanwhile, in order to decrease the plantar stressconcentration and improve the sole comfort, we implemented the parametricreconstruction of bottom surface of shoe last based on the plantar pressuredistribution, according to the foot biomechanics. All the processes wereprogrammed with MATLAB and combined into the shoe-last design system with afriendly user interface being established. The M-file was compiled to an applicationprogram which can run independently. In the CAD software UG, an applicationprogram was developed to transform the point data of the designed shoe last into a3D solid model that could be used to produce the NC code for manufacturing. Aparametric method was also implemented in UG to modify the surface of shoe-last.
