Thermal deformation of machine tool is one of the main reasons which affect theaccuracy of the machining. So the heat design of the machine tool plays an important rolein machine tool design. Ram is the most important part of the NC boring-milling machine.The thermal-structural characteristics of the ram determine the processing performance ofthe entire machine. Based on the “11th Five-Year Plan” project of “Researching andDeveloping of the Large CNC Boring and Milling Machine”, taking the ram system ofTK6920CNC Boring and Milling Machine as the research object, and using finite elementanalysis software ANSYS as a tool, the temperature field of the ram system of machinetool,the mathematical model of the heat deformation, creating thermodynamics model andcorrecting the model, calculating boundary conditions, optimal design of thermalcharacteristic were comprehensively and systemically studied. The main research in thepaper is as the following:The CAD model of TK6920CNC Boring and Milling Machine is built by3dimensionsoftware.Based on analyzing the internal heat source and boundary conditions of the ramsystem, the finite element model of the ram system is built by the finite element analysissoftware-ANSYS. The constant temperature field distribution and thermal equilibrium timeof the ram system is simulated and calculated with the finite element method. And it is thebasis of calculating heat deformation and optimal design of thermal characteristic.Based on ensuring the restriction and heat load, the heat deformation of the ramsystem is fully analyzed and the deformation error of the spindle head is calculated.The parametric model and structure optimal design of the ram system of TK6920CNCBoring and Milling Machine is put forward and carried out using the ANSYS optimalfunction with APDL parametric design language. The thermal characteristic and dynamiccharacteristic of the ram system are improved successfully at the same time.
