Epoxy resin is used widely because of its many excellent virtue, but, mainlyepoxy resin is only dissolved by the organic solvent of ketone, alcohol, aromaticresin, and so on. The organic solvent will pollute the environment. The waterborneepoxy resin instead of Solvent epoxy resin is the research direction of new materialbecause of the protection of environment. In this paper, waterborne epoxy resinemulsion was synthesized by different water-borne modification, respectively withp-aminobenzoic acid and styrene-acrylic monomer. The waterborne epoxy resin emulsion with good stability was prepared viamodification of bisphenol A epoxy resin E-44by P-aminobenzoic acid to introducehydrophilic group to epoxy resin. The product was characterized and analysised byIR, DSC, TEM ZetaCAD, TGA and so on. With the increase of addition ofp-aminobenzoic acid, the Tg of modified epoxy resin was increased and the diameterof the particles of waterborne epoxy resin emulsion was diminished and its stabilitywas improved. The waterborne epoxy resin emulsion was synthesized by graftingcopolymerization of epoxy resin E-12and Styrene-acrylic monomer. The effects ofall kinds of process parameters on the performance of waterborne epoxy resin werestudied, and the structure and properties of the waterborne epoxy resin werecharacterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), andzetaCAD.EP-TETA adduct was prepared by reacting epoxy resin E-44withtriethylenetetramine (TETA). Then, the adduct was terminated by glycidylmethacrylate (GMA). Finally, waterborne epoxy curing agent was prepared afterneutralizing some amine groups with glacial acetic acid. Meanwhile the effects of thedifferent types of curing agent and the different types of waterborne epoxy resin onthe properties of cured film were studied.
