This thesis aims at the preparation of PAFC from low-cost and abundant kaolinand scrap iron. The new developed macromolecular flocculant is used to removealgae in the city river and The effect of algae removal and turbidity removal iscontrasted with that of other flocculants in market. The result of the researchindicates:The preparation of PAFC from kaolin and scrap iron is technically feasible.Through single factor experiments and orthogonal experiments, the optimizedtechnological parameters for the preparation of PAFC are as follows: calcinationstemperature for kaolin is750℃, calcinations time are2.5hours, mass ratio ofkaolin and scrap iron is2.5:0.06, time for acid soluble are2.5hours, temperaturefor acid soluble is95℃, acid soluble ratio is4:1, acid concentration is20%, timefor water bath maturation are3hours. PAFC, the new macromolecular flocculant,has been developed under this condition.Each index of PAFC from the new method has been tested according to theWater Treatment Flocculant-PAFC National Standard. All the indices covered bythe test include: relative density, alumina content, ferric oxide content, PH value,insoluble matter content, sulfate content, ammonia nitrogen content, basicity,content of every kind of heavy metal. The experimental results indicate that eachindex comply with the standard.In the experiments to remove algae in the city river, the PAFC from the newmethod and three other flocculants have been used. The effect of differentflocculants’ quantity and PH value has been contrasted to determine the optimalquantity and the range of PH value in reaction. Based on the previous research, theflocculants were used with coagulants, such as PAM, HCA, to determine theoptimal quantities of coagulants. In this way, the optimized flocculant andcoagulant are selected.According to the contrast of experiments, PAFC from the new method hasrelatively good application effect. The result of the research has potential economicbenefits with low cost.
