Practical Study On Greenhouse Gas Inventories Of The Energy Activities Of Hubei Province

Global warming is one of the most serious challenges of human beings in recentdecades. The main culprit of the catastrophe, excessive emission of greenhouse gases, hasbecome the enemy of all mankind. In order to reduce the speed of emission, actions led bygovernments have begun to take shape, including cooperation among countries and theemission reduction targets and programs set up by dominant countries. By now, thegovernment of China has set up a goal of decreasing the40%to45%of carbon dioxideper unit of GDP in2020compared with that of2005. Some success was achieved duringthe "Eleventh Five-Year" period, and in the "Twelfth Five-Year" period and “ThirteenthFive-Year” period the target will be gradually completed. However, the government doesnot have a good grasp of the regional emissions facts, as a result of insufficient data in2005, and scientific irrationality from the top-down decomposition of goals. Therefore, thestate government started the2005provincial greenhouse gas inventory plan.Five major areas are involved in the greenhouse gas inventory. They are energyrelated activities, industrial processes, agriculture, forestry and urban waste, among whichenergy related activities have the widest coverage and largest emission, becoming thecrucial part of the inventory. In this paper, combined with the actual situation in HubeiProvince inventory making, the provincial greenhouse gas inventory in energy relatedactivities was analyzed, the acquisition methods of activity data and emission factor wereproposed, and further the calculation steps of the inventory were put forward. All thesework could provide guidance for theoretical and methodological foundations of provincialinventory making.Under the guidance of theories and methodologies, energy statistics got from therelevant departments and organizations in Hubei Province were studied. The statisticswere divided into different branches to get processed. These branches included industrialsectors, energy conversion processes, coal categories, biomass combustion, gas escapefrom coal mining and oil and gas system, fossil fuel consumption in transportation,services, living, animal husbandry and fishery departments. Finally, greenhouse gasinventory in energy related activities in Hubei Province was made.
