With the improvement of people’s living standard, the environmental problemsbecome increasingly severe, which are the main factor that restrict economic progress.Among them, the water pollution is particularly prominent, which includes domesticwater pollution and industrial water pollution. Cationic polyacrylamide is widelyapplied in the field of water treatment because of its good flocculation effect. In thispaper, on the basis of reference literature, in order to the mixture of tert-butyl alcohol(TBA), ammonium sulfate and deionized water as reaction mediums, the acrylamide(AM), methyl acryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) and N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) as raw materials, ammonium persulfate and sodium bisulfite asinitiators, the mixture of polyethylene glycol20000and poly methacrylatoethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (PDMC) as stabilizers, by dispersion polymerization, get cationic polyacrylamide emulsion with good fluidity.Through the experimental investigation of the effects of monomer concentration, reaction medium concentration, dispersant concentration, initiator concentration, theaddition amount of chelating agent and urea, polymerization temperature on themolecular weight of cationic polyacrylamide and dispersed phase particle size, obtained better reaction conditions are: the monomer concentration is9%to16%,cationic degree is9%to16%, the concentration of ammonium sulfate is22%to30%,the stabilizer concentration (monomer) is1%to3.5%, reaction temperature is30℃to50℃. The emulsion obtained has good stability and low viscosity, the monomerconversion rate can reach more than99.4%, the opolymer molecular weight can reacha maximum of3.5million.Through the determination of the relative molecular weight, were confirmed by IRthat the structure of reaction product contains the characteristic peak ofpolyacrylamide. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reactions of the polymerparticle size case. Through flocculation experiments, reflecting the effects of cationicpolyacrylamide flocculant cationic degree and molecular weight on the effects offlocculation.
