Wastewater affects the human society and even the whole ecological environment, a more efficient means are required to treat the increasing in volume of sewage discharge. In recent years, the dispersion polymerization are arousing peoples interesting and concerning due to the superior performance, less pollution and easy operation, the same is true of the polymer/clay nano-composite due to its multifunctionality.1) The cationic plyacrylamide (CPAM) emulsion was prepared by dispersion polymerization, and its characterization of structure and morphology are as follows:a. The optimum conditions to get the emulsion with higher characteristic viscosity ηr is that the initiator, monomer and dispersant were0.05%,7.5%and1.25%respectively, the structure of CPAM was characterized by IR and1H-NMR.b. Morphological change of CPAM in dispersion polymerization process was caught by optical microscope, and the polymerization of the AM experienced two processes of the nuclear formation and the nuclear growth. The particles size of CPAM emulsion formed is about690nm and it dispersed in the emulsion with the form of spherical particle.c. Kaolin aqueous solution was simulated as sewage and flocculated by CPAM emulsion, the results showed that CPAM has better flocculation property in acidic system than the neutral or alkaline system. The flocculation mechanism of CPAM is through action of bridging and electrical neutralization on kaolin suspensions.2) On the basic of preparing CPAM, O-MMT was prepared by intercalation organically ofNa-MMT by DMC, and then MMT-CPAM with ion absorption function was synthesized through dispersion polymerization. The experimental results are as follows:a. Morphology of MMT-CPAM was arborization.b. MMT can help improve the flocculation capacity of CPAM on kaolin suspensions.c. MMT-CPAM emulsion posses the decolorization function of heavy metal ions in addition to having flocculation, the adsorption kinetics of MMT-CPAM on Cr6+showed that the equilibrium absorption capacity is0.90297ppm on Cr6+.
