High speed cutting (HSC) technology, which have main feature of higher cuttingefficiency and higher machined surface quality, has been pay attention in developedindustrial countries, and obtained good economic and social benefits. However, hardened steel with the traditional grinding and EDM will cause in stability ofmachining accuracy, low efficiency and high cost of processing. Today, uses highspeed cutting hardened steel become possible with the development of a new kind ofultra hard tool materials and high-speed machine tools. Therefore, the surface qualityof high-speed cutting of hardened steel must be deep studied.Research on milling force and surface quality based on the experiments ofhigh-speed milling of difference hardened45steel. The main researches are asfollows: Analysis of the influence of the cutting force and surface roughness for themilling parameters and the hardness by univariate and multi factor experiments ofhigh-speed milling of45steel. The influence law of the milling parameters ofworkpiece surface hardening by high-speed hard milling experiment of45hardenedsteel. The application of the Taguchi, the influence of the workpiece surfaceroughness of the cutting parameters was optimized, and the combination of optimalcutting parameters can able to obtain a minimum surface roughness. This paper studies showed that:1、The cutting parameters and workpiece hardness has an important influence tothe milling force when high speed milling of45steel. When the milling speed lessthan400m/min, cutting force increases as the milling speed increases, relatively, cutting force reduces as the milling speed increases. Milling force increases with pertooth feed rate, milling depth, the hardness increasing. The reasonable choice ofoptimal cutting parameters based on technical requirements in actual processing. Inaddition, regression analysis method which considers the conditions of the hardnessbuilt the experience of the high-speed milling45steel cutting force model, provides abasis for the formulation of high-speed milling45steel processes.2、The cutting parameters and work hardness also has an important influence tothe surface roughness when high-speed milling45hardened steel. The surfaceroughness decrease with the increase of the milling speed, while increase with theincrease of per tooth feed rate, milling depth, hardness. 3、High-speed milling of45steel, the cutting parameters on surface harden hasan important influence. With increasing milling speed machined surface hardness andhardening layer depth first decreases and then increases. Surface hardness and depthof hardened layer increases with the feed per tooth is the amount of increase has beenprocessed. Milling depth is not very significant of the degree of hardening.4、 The minimum surface roughness was obtained when800m/min of themilling speed,0.05mm/r of feed per tooth,0.3mm of the milling depth,and54HRC of high speed milling hardness of45hardened steel using by the taguchimethod, provides a basis for the choices of high-speed milling45steel Processparameters.
