The stopping casting fluid position of continuous casting tundish is determined by the characteristic altitude when vortex appearances, however mostly researchs of vortex is about of concrete project experimental studies and reducing turbulent flow measures. The fundamental research is more defective. The research results are difficult to satisfy the need of engineering designs. This dissertation carries out the mathematical analysis research analysis and a simulation research on the vortex sink formation in tundish and the molten steel flow in mould.Convergence mechanism to establish the mathematical model of vortex, and using the mathematical physics thought about the separation quantity method and the method of characteristics,this research thinks that the axial symmetry whirlpool’s state of motion is not only the radial direction function, but also the axial function, overcomes the flaw which is difficult to reflect on the Axial change, transforms the equation as mathematics in the solvable first-order quasi-linearity partial differential equation, transforms it as constant simultaneous differential equation by using the method of characteristics, infers the speed the analytic solution and the whorl facial suture equation. Taking this article analytic solution as foundation, this article analysis afflux whirlpool radial direction and axial change rule, then determines it can reflect correctly the whirlpool axial spiral flow. Simultaneously the paper analysis dregs level to afflux whirlpool drop dregs mathematical analysis change with using the shear stress.Applied FLUENT software to simulate the vortex convergence.The numerical simulation research shows that vortex originates from the outlet, and develops upward with its scope enlarging. When the liquid is deep, the flow is mainly horizontally affected by surface fluctuation, and the flowing out is of little influence on the surface, so it is hard to form a conflux vortex. On the contrast, when the liquid is not deep enough, the liquid in the neighbourhood of the outlet flows out directly and there is no enough liquid to make it up, so the conflux vortex forms on the surface. The lower the surface is. the intenser the effect on surface is and the larger the effective scope is. It means that the surface fluctuation has no function on the conflux vortex forming. When the surface descends to a certain height, the conflux vortex develops to reach the outlet. It indicates that to inhibit the conflux vortex, some steps should be adapted around the outlet.Simultaneously the dissertation establishes the critical fluid position highly empirical formula Through a mathematics mechanism model.Moreover it get the relations mouth inside diameter, current capacity, vorticity constant and class mouth place Fr number and whirlpool characteristic highly parameter in the tundish liquid level droping process by the water model experiment.The research indicates that the small class mouth inside diameter, the small pulls fast and the suitable dregs level thickness are advantageous in preventing and suppressing the whirlpool through a numerical simulation experiment of some steel and iron factory’s tundish fluid position drop process.
