At present, PM10is becoming the primary air pollutant in China. It is imminent to control atmospheric particles pollution and improve the atmospheric environment quality. In this paper, the research progresses of PM10in the atmosphere at home and abroad were investigated, and then the experimental and theoretical analysis methods of physical and chemical characteristics and sources apportionment of PM10in Baoding City were accordingly determined. PM10samples were collected during heating period and non-heating period in Baoding City. Then concentration analysis, scanning electron microscope and associated energy spectrum analysis, atomic absorption spectrometry analysis, fractal dimension calculation and sources apportionment of the effective samples were performed. The results indicated that PM10pollution was serious during heating period in Baoding City, especially in the North District of the city. The concentration of PM10in this area during heating period was0.205mg/m3, which exceeded the national second-class standard0.15mg/m3. Coal fly ash, soot aggregates and mineral particles were the main component of PM10collected during heating period in Baoding City. The content of coal fly ash and soot aggregates was high in PM10, but the content of mineral particles was low in PM10collected during heating period in Baoding City. Size distributions of PM10were analyzed based on image analysis of single particle and the fractal dimensions of size distribution values of PM10were calculated. The results indicated that the fractal dimensions of size distribution values of PM10collected in heating period varied from2.2052to2.6596, the fractal dimensions of size distribution values of PM10collected in non-heating period varied from2.5690to2.8474. Through using atomic absorption spectrometry analysis, the average concentrations measured of Ti, Al, Fe, Ca, Si, Mg, K and Zn in PM10collected in heating period were0.215μg/m3,7.1030μg/m3,4.2068μg/m3,7.3825μg/m3,8.9268ug/m3,0.9925μg/m3,1.6307μg/m3and0.4413μg/m3, the average concentrations measured of Ti, A1, Fe, Ca, Si, Mg, K and Zn in PM10collected in non-heating period were0.141μg/m3,2.7059μg/m3,3.1582μg/m3,4.3510μg/m3,5.8325μg/m3,0.5126μg/m3,1.1228μg/m3and0.3495ug/m3. The principal component analysis revealed that the main sources of elements of PM10found in Baoding were soil dust and coal combustion(42.296%), industrial dust(32.084%) and motor vehicle emission(25.620%).
