Today, most of our molds in the mold design are still two-dimensionalengineering drawings, process analysis and process design are based on thedesigner’s extensive practical experience. In the mold processing picture showsthe basis of two-dimensional works, this is a common problem in the moldmanufacturing.In this paper, from the gap between the domestic mold design andtechnology and the international advanced technology level, the future directionof development of the mold manufacturing in China is proposed, and meanwhiledescribe the status of the foundry industry in the national economy, finallyfinish the gravity casting mold CAD/CAM integration by an instance of thetypical parts (gearbox top cover).This article focuses on the whole process of designing and manufacturingof the auto gearbox cover mold. First of all, UG7.5software is used formodeling parts of3D design. Cast program,3D modeling, mold structure of thealuminum mold, sand mold structure design are based on the structuralcharacteristics of the gearbox top cover and the structure of parts of its materialtype. The MoldWizard module of UG7.5is used for loading and assembling theparts of the mold; Secondly, the materials of the aluminum and sand mold arechosen according to the actual conditions of production and processingrequirements, and the overall process of the parts manufacturing are described,including roughing and CNC machining process. Finally, the new trend of thecasting mold development of new technologies are analyzed, the two commonlyused industrial casting methods of the gravity casting and pressure casting are compared to show the advantages and disadvantages of them, the other newcasting mold manufacturing methods are also introduced.A variety of new moldmanufacturing method, greatly accelerate the pace of improving the quality ofthe mold, and the speed of shorting the design cycle, and finally make greatcontributions to the realization of the modernization of China’s machinerymanufacturing industry, automation, information technology and low cost.
