The domino effect is an accident, which is caused by an initial unit or device, spread tonear one or more units and devices, trigger secondary accidents, and cause the consequenceseverer than the initial accident. The risk assessment of domino effect, which is made fordomino effect, is comprehensive analysis and assessment of consequence.With the development of socio-economic and continuous improvement of chemicaltechnology, in order to meet the need of their own development, enterprise may enlarge theirscale of production by rebuilding or expansion in the existing factory. But at the same time,chemical enterprise device is developing to large-scale and concentrated, the types andnumber of inflammable and explosive dangerous substances is increasing. Which not onlygreatly increased the possibility of accident occurrence, but also to some extend increased therisk of domino effect. Its advantage of applying risk assessment of domino effect method inchemical device optimized layout is it dose not analyse unit in process or deviceindependently, but take into account the interaction between the surrounding devices and thenpredict the risk of secondary accidents occurring. Through the analysis of fire and explosionaccident of domino effect, this paper describe the use of thermal radiation, shock waves anddebris three extension ways probability analysis models to calculate the probability andconsequences of domino accidents, demonstrate the steps of risk assessment of domino effect,and establish the process to optimize the layout of devices by applying domino effect riskassessment method and hierarchical structure model to select optimal program in rebuildingor expansion of chemical enterprise. And the last part of the paper, take a storage tank farmexpansion example, identify the dangerous unit, carry on the risk analysis of domino effect inview of the most dangerous accident scene. And get the probability and severity ofconsequences of domino effect. Thus provide the evidence of selection of optimal layoutprogram of device in rebuilding or expansion of chemical enterprise.
