Comparative Study On Coordination Development Of Urbanization And Ecological Environment Of Urban Agglomeration In Yangtze River Delta

The world is in a period of knowledge-based economy, urbanization in China has continuously developed after entering post-industrial period. Rapid urbanization process has brought many benefits to the economic and social development while resulting in problems such as overpopulation, housing shortage, resource scarcity, environmental pollution, land degradation and other "urban diseases", which bring severe challenge to urban development. The process of urbanization will inevitably bring pressure to the urban ecological environment, which influence and change the level of the city’s ecological environment. Coordination of environmental protection and urban development is the essential way for sustainable urban development, as well as objective needs of achieving harmonious development of society.Based on foreign and domestic research of urbanization and ecological environment, combined with the actual situation of the Yangtze Delta,13urbanization indicators are selected from four aspects of population, spatial, economic, and living and10environmental indicators are selected from three aspects of environmental pressures, environment status and environment governance to establish index system of Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration’s urbanization and ecological environment. Data related to urbanization and ecological environment of16cities are collected, and distance coordination degree model is established. The principal component analysis is used to reduce the dimension and analyze the index data. Result of urbanization and ecological environment in16cities in the Yangtze River Delta from2002to2010of urbanization and the ecological environment is presented. By using GIS mapping technology, Changes of urbanization and ecological environment in16cities in the Yangtze River Delta from2002to2010of urbanization and the ecological environment is illustrated. Then, horizontal and vertical comparison of cities in the Yangtze Delta of different years is conducted. The reasons for change and difference level of diversified cities of urbanization and the ecological environment in various years are analyzed. Overall urbanization and the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration showing a favorable development trend, the amount of cities of coordinated development is increasing and the coordination level is also rising. However, coordinated development level of the overall urbanization and ecological environment in the Yangtze River Delta cities is in a relatively low level of coordination instead of high level coordination. The gap of urbanization and ecological environment level between various cities is large. It is still an indispensable topic about how to promote all aspects of urbanization in the premise of maintaining the level of the ecological environment which need to be further studied.Change and its causes of urbanization level of the16cities of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from2002to2010are analyzed from these four aspects of population, space, life, economy. Urbanization of population is relatively slow and shows gradual slowing trend. By comparison of the status of population, space, economy and living of cities the Yangtze Delta from2002to2010, the gap between cities in population urbanization has narrowed, while the gaps of space, economy and living urbanization between cites widened. Change and its causes of urbanization level of the16cities of the Yangtze River Delta ecological environment from2002to2010are analyzed from aspects of environmental pressures, status and governance. Gaps of level of environmental pressures, status and governance between cities continue to narrow, while governance of ecological environment show large fluctuations in different years.Suggestions and measures on the coordinated development of urbanization and ecological environment of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration about aspects of urbanization and ecological environment are proposed. On the aspect of urbanization, Suggestions such as optimizing the industrial structure and layout of the Yangtze Delta, actively developing a circular economy, optimizing the spatial structure of urban agglomeration, upgrading urban functions, breaking the restrictions of administrative divisions, establishing internal cooperation and coordination mechanisms of Yangtze River Delta are proposed. On the aspect of environment development in the Yangtze Delta, suggestions such as giving more consideration to ecological factors in urban planning, strengthening the city’s ecological development, environmental supervision and regulation, developing green technology and materials, improving the environmental awareness of citizen and strengthening public participation are provided.
