With the development and demand of mechanical manufacturing industry, there are higher and higher demands on hole processing. So drilling technology (drill, drill grinding and drilling process) has been taken as an important subject in the research field of machining.Conical twist drill is commonly used, while it has disadvantages that poor centering, large axial force and torque and so on. So structure and materials of dill have been improved to meet the needs of production. Someone put forward mathematical models of dill flank to improve the function of dill. One of these is the complex helical drill model. However, because of its complex mathematical models, the limitation of grinding technology and grinding tool, the new drill point has not been a good application. As far as the present situation, this paper proposed the research of grinding technical of complex helical drill based on the three parallel universal joint CNC and it mainly study on the theory of complex helical drill and its grinding technology on the three parallel CNC. This paper focused on the following aspects of exposition and research:(1) Development overview of dill was introduced and improvements on structure and material of current dill were made a summary. The research history about mathematical model of dill flank was reviewed. Also the current method on grinding helical drill and the present situation of grinding machines were described. And put forward to the necessity and feasibility of researching on complex helical dill grinding technology.(2) The current grinding method on helical drill point and the difference between the dill flank of complex helical dill and ordinary helical dill were given. The mathematical model of complex helical dill was established according to principle of grinding and enveloping surface, and the classification and characteristics of complex helical dill were given.(3) According to mathematical model, relationship between drill point geometry parameters and grinding parameters was analyzed. Solving equation of geometry parameters was established, and reference for study on the trend of geometry parameters with grinding parameters changed was provided.(4) The affect of grinding parameters on the structural parameters using numerical analytical method was got, and the curve diagram using MATLAB was drew. Sensitivity of grinding parameters under the curve was analyzed. According to the three parallel CNC and sensitivity, the reasonable and controllable parameters were selected which provided scientific guidance for grinding tests.(5) Introduction and simple analysis for composition and movement principles of the three parallel CNC were made. Swing features and control factors of universal joint were chosen. Grinding test and polishing test of twist drill with the different characteristics ofΦ6andΦ10. Grinding result is consistent with the intended purpose and the grinding results were analyzed.The results show that:The mathematical model based on the three parallel universal joint CNC is correct. The affect trend grinding parameters on the structural parameters is sensible. The grinding technology based on the machine can improve the current situation of complex helical dill point grinding. The grinding is controlled by the four-axis simultaneous motion, which is perfect precision and high efficiency. As the working space superiority of the machine, there is a big space for the further research on drill point based on the machine.
