With the development of economy, the social demand for traditional energy such as oilis on the increase. But as a non-renewable energy, with the increasing amount of oilexploitation, the oil resources gradually reduced. So how to be more rational and efficientexploitation of petroleum resources becomes increasingly important. So far most of theoil’s wells are entered in the late mining stage. The water content of the exploitation crudeoil are increasing, and play an important role in storage, transportation, processing and sale.So a real-time online the water content of crude oil measurement system is urgent need. The detection of the water content of crude oil is the object of the research with theelectromagnetic conductance method outside the pipeline. The advantages anddisadvantages of various the water content of crude oil detection methods is simpleanalyzed. The conventional electromagnetic conductivity sensor is optimized. According tothe characteristics of the design of the electromagnetic conductivity sensor, the sensor issimulation analyzed by ANSYS. The number of magnetic field lines and the size of themagnetic field strength into the metal pipes inside are detailed analyzed. The optimalfrequency is the low frequency signal of39Hz with using electromagnetic conductancemethod to detect the water content of crude oil. And then the distance between the sensorcoils are analyzed, the optimum distance between the coils is0.6m. Based on the optimalfrequency and optimal distance, the data analog is calculated by MATLAB. The differentthe water content of crude oil on the size of the useful signal receiving coil are analyzed.According to the results of theoretical analysis, microcontroller-based measurementsystem is designed, including excitation source occurred modules, power amplifiermodules, data acquisition modules and A/D converter module. The correspondingexperiments were carried out. In the frequency of the excitation source for39Hz, as well asthe distance between the transmitter coil and shielding coil constant, the signal of thedifferent distances between the shielding coil and the receiving coil are measured; then holding optimal distance of the coils, the actual measurement is carried out for different thewater content of crude oil.Based on the analysis of the data from the experiment, the water content of crude oil ismeasured outside the pipe with using the optimized electromagnetic conductivity sensor. The actual experiments verify the theoretical analysis.
