Polymer/montmorillonite nanocomposites has good physical and mechanical propertieswith a low content of MMT. But the addition of montmorillonite also reduces the impactstrength of Polymer/montmorillonite nanocomposites. In order to remedy the defect, Thisarticle modified montmorillonite using the plasticizer N-methyl benzene sulfonamide, whichhoped to improve the impact strength of polymer/montmorillonite nanocomposites. nylon610/montmorillonite nanocomposite Material was prepared by the method of in-situpolymerization, and researched properties of the structure and mechanical of nylon610/montmorillonite nanocomposite, moreover its rheological properties, melt behavior andcrystallization process were studied. The main results are as follows:(1)XRD results shows that the plasticizer N-methyl benzene sulfonamide can modifyMMT, the interlayer spacing of these MMT were increased. The study found that the impactstrength of nylon610/montmorillonite nanocomposites was improved with a low content ofMMT, but the impact strength decreased, with the increase of montmorillonite. Tensilestrength and elongation at break was increased with the increase of content of montmorilloniteis first increased then decreased.(2) Rheological properties of the study indicated both nylon610and nylon610/montmorilonite were pseudoplastic and exhibited shear-thinning behavior. And non-newtonian index decreased with the increase of the content of montmorillonite. The reductionof the viscous activation energy with the increment of shearing stress indicated thatnanocomposites could be processed over a wider temperature at a constant shearing stress.(3) Through crystallization properties of the nylon610/montmorillonitenanocomposites,we found that although montmorillonite acts as the nucleating agent of thenylon610in our systems, it did not change the crystalline forms of nylon610matrix. The melt behaviors and crystallization behaviors of nanocomposites were also investigated.Thecrystallization kinetics of nylon610and its nanocomposites were analysized using theclassical crystallization kinetics equation. It demonstrated that the Avrami equation describedthe isothermal crystallization of nylon610and its nanocomposites, while both the Avramiequation modified by Jeziorny and Mo’s method described well the nonisothermalcrystallization kinetics.Some important parameters for the crystallization kinetics wereobtained. Additionally,the equilibrium melting temperature and the activation energy ofnonisothermal crystallization for nanocomposites were calculated fromHoffman-Weeks.equation and Hoffmann-Lauritzen theory.
