The intense market competition causes product development to small batch, diversification, and short life cycle trend. Rapid prototyping technology can shorten the cycle of product trial and single, small batch manufacturing. Reverse engineering, on the basis of the existing technology, can copy products and optimize the design, shortening product design cycle. Combining the two kinds of technology in the mold manufacturing can shorten the design cycle by40%and reduce the manufacturing cycle of1/3.According to the tire tread pattern mold, this paper provided a manufacturing method based on reverse engineering and rapid prototyping technology. Using three-dimensional scanning device captured the point cloud data of the tire surface, and according to the data the three-dimensional model of the high-precision tire was established by reverse designs. Finally, the tire tread pattern mold is designed according to the model. The thermosetting resin coated sand was used as molding material and Combined with rapid prototyping technology layered manufactures sand mold. Finally, High precision mold blank (size tolerance grade CT can reach7-8) was obtained by gravity casting. By a small amount of machining and polishing processing, the blank can satisfy the requirement of the mould dimension precision and surface quality.Taken the40.00R57engineering giant tire as example, this paper analyzed the complete reverse processes from the tire data collection to tire tread pattern mold design in detail. Comparing tyre mathematical model and the original point cloud data, the maximum absolute error was±2.5mm, the maximum relative error was±0.7‰. At the same time, the parameters and some key technology of the two methods was optimized. Using the technology to make a type of tyre pattern block mold has been successfully applied to practical production.
