As a peculiar engineering plastic to China, Nylon1010has been widely used for its excellent performances. As structural material, Nylon1010has been put forward higher requirements in the dimensional stability, heat resistance, strength. Wollastonite is one of the abundant inorganic silicate mineral materials, which has a great potential to be used as a new alternative for nylon reinforced filler due to its rigidity, low water absorption, good heat resistance, non-toxic and inexpensive. Therefore, in this paper, Nylon1010/wollastonite composites were prepared by means of melt blending. The introduction of the wollastonite could not only improve the mechanical properties of the pure Nylon1010, but also reduce the cost of the composites greatly. This research mainly focus on the preparation of the composites consisting of Nylon1010and modified wollastonite and the studies on the properties including mechanical, properties, and thermal expansion properties, thermal stability, mechanisms of frictional wear, melting and crystallization of the composites. The conclusions were drawn as follows:(1) The Nylon1010/wollastonite composites were prepared by melt blending, SEM and EDS analysis showed that wollastonite evenly dispersed in nylon1010matrix, the melting of the composite materials had good performance in molding processing.(2) Filled with the wollastonite, the rigidity of the composite materials improved obviously. Nylon1010/wollastonite composites were prepared by melting blending. Compared with the nylon, the Nylon1010/wollastonite composites got much better mechanical properties, when the wollastonite contents is70%, the tensile strength increases by29.2%, the bending strength increases by93.2%, the tensile elastic modulus increases by256%, the bending elastic modulus increases by367%and the dynamic storage modulus increases by about350%.(3) With addition of wollastonite, the friction and wear properties of composite materials improves obviously, the coefficient of friction and the amount of wear becomes lower and less, the coefficient of friction and wear was exponential relationship with wollastonite content severally, SEM results showed that the wear surface of the composite material was smooth, and adhesion wear of Nylon1010reduced or disappeared due to the wollastonite.(4) With addition of wollastonite, the thermal expansion coefficient of the nylon1010reduced substantially, and the influence of the temperature to thermal expansion coefficient of Nylon1010/wollastonite composites reduced, and made the dimensional stability of the Nylon1010better, the thermal decomposition temperature of Nylon1010/wollastonite composites increased. With the increase of the content of wollastonite, the thermal distortion temperature of the composite material gradually increased, when wollastonite content was60wt%, the thermal deformation temperature of the composite material increased from65℃to163℃. The water absorption of the composite material decreased gradually with the increase of the wollastonite content.In summary, the Nylon1010/wollastonite composites have good integrated performance, the preparation of the Nylon1010/wollastonite composites was simple and easy to operate. With adding more wollastonite, the composite material will be cheaper.
