With the development of social economy and modernization process of ourcountry, the increase of the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere haslead to a series of problems and made it under increasing pressure for our country inthe international climate negotiation. So it is of great significance to find a way toreduce CO2without impeding China’s economic development. CO2geologicalsequestration is a new technology and one of the methods to reduce the CO2concentration safely and effectively which could sequestrate the greenhouse gases inthe suitable underground geological structure in the crust. Meanwhile, it has little badeffect on the surface ecological environment. This new technology has been broughtinto public attention and attracts the attention of governments. And a lot of researchand experimental work have been done about this new method recent years.Aiming for providing theoretical support for project implementation anddecision-making, this thesis selected18indicators from four major aspects includingbasin characteristics, reservoir-seal characteristics, storage potential and cost factor, and established evaluation index system, using AHP to calculate the weight of indexesand Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation Model to assess the CO2geological storage suitabilityof43major petroliferous basins of China. Then the thesis collected all the data ofthese basins in18indicators, creating a database, using the established evaluationmodel to give each basin a score based on the evaluation and ranking them accordingto the scores. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages and potential of each basinfor CO2geological storage are discussed based on the results mentioned above. In the thesis, an analysis into the results from assessment on the43basins ofChina discovered that: there are11suitable basins which are generally larger, thickerof the reservoir and of favorable geological and natural conditions, and whose extentof exploration and utilization are higher. There are13less suitable basins which areconcentrated in North China, the west and northeast of China where the natural condition are good for storage of CO2and the large CO2emission industrial areconcentrated. All these are conductive to carry out CO2geological storage projects.Last, there are19basins unsuitable for CO2storage according to the results. Thesebasins are small and distributed in the central, southern and southwestern like Yunnanand Guizhou and other regions which are of poor natural and transportation conditions, and underdeveloped industry. The next work can be focused on drawing the suitability map and selecting thetarget areas for carrying out the demonstration project of CO2geological storage. Atthe same time, the monitoring and assessment of environmental impact, geologicaldisasters and the bad influences to human which caused by CO2geological storageshould be strengthened in order to ensure of the safety of the implementing of theprojects.
