In order to deal with the energy crisis, countries all over the word have put forward the Green Lighting concept one after another. Because of its high luminous efficiency and long service life, fluorescent lamps have been widely used. New, efficient, energy-saving fluorescent lamps require electronic ballast to drive. Compared to the traditional magnetic ballast, high frequency electronic ballasts have a lighter weight, smaller size, higher efficiency, no flicker, easier to implement dimming and a higher power factor, so get a wide range of promotion. Due to the complex star-up process and timing control the builting with conventional analog control is unavoidably cumbersome, but the digital control can simplify hardware circuit to implement standard of performance, enhance the matching of the lamps, be easier to implement advanced control, dimming and networking applications. The electronic ballast with digital control can be easily used in a variety of high demand situations, so the digital control is an important development direction of electronic ballasts.With the continuous expansion of the lighting capacity and scale, large-scale lighting requires advanced management. Intelligent lighting system based on network communication came into being. The implementation of intelligent lighting system has two main purposes. First, intelligent lighting system can improve the control and management of lighting system, to reduce the maintenance costs. Second, it could save energy and reduce operating costs.This paper first gives an introduction to the fluorescent and ballast. And then, some key technologies about electronic ballast such as generality, dimmable, power factor correction, network are be researched. A dynamic modle about T5 fluorescent lamps is set up, and be used in the simulation on electronic ballast circuit. Simulation results verify the feasibility of relevant theoretical results.Finally, based on Freescale MC56F8013 DSP a digital electronic ballast prototype module is built, and through it the experiments of generality, dimmable, power factor correction and so on are performed. Then run a wireless communication test with ZigBee MC13213. Experimental results show that this system has strong generality, high PF and a wide dimming range. Wireless commucation test also makes certain achivement. These verify the rationality of experimental platform including both hardware and software and show the advantages of digital control.
