Wetland is one of the three most important ecosystems on earth, alongwith forest ecosystems and marine ecosystem. Before1980s, development onwetland resources was almost predatory, which caused great damages onwetlands. So when it came to1980s, humans began to aware of theimportance of protecting wetlands. In China, the most common patterns toprotect wetlands are setting reservation area and building wetland parks. Asto wetland parks, they are conducive to combine the protection and utilization, which are also effective to protect the wetlands in and around cities. As aresult, a lot number of urban wetland parks have been built all around China.Hanjiang National Wetland Park is the only one planned along HanjiangRiver. It lies in the east side of Gucheng Town, Hubei Province, near theupriver of Hanjiang River. The total area is21.9square kilometers. There areboth river wetlands and artificial wetlands in the park. And west and east sideare totally different. Considering that the city is the main affect factor to thewetland park, design based on adaptability is used in this wetland park. Forone thing, from west to east, the wetland park presents the transition fromartificial environment to natural environment. So the west side is mostly builtfor citizens as an urban park, while the east side is focused on protectingriver wetlands. For another, places for visitors’ activities in this park arelimited in certain area. Present villages are reused as service centers. So thesecenters, appeared as spots in the master plan, are the main places for visitors.Outwards there will be less and less affection by human beings. As a result, humans can only limited use the resources of the wetland. There will leavemore space for further development and wetland protection.
