Resident Historic District Protection And Update Strategy

In recent years, with the massive renewal of urbanization, the preservation anddevelopment of historical district is increasingly emphasized in thecommunity. Although the preservation on historical district has been graduallyperformed, there are still many problems and blocks in this work due to the shortduration of preservation work, old-fashioned preservation methods, shortage offunds, incompleteness of policies and the limitation of human and techniqueresources during the investigation.As a city with strong colonial color, Qingdao has many unique historical andcultural styles, Signal Hill historic block in one of them. In the long river of historydevelopment, Signal Hill historic block experienced the process of developing,flourishing and declining. Signal Hill historic block has formed the current historicaldistrict style during this period. Therefore, in-depth investigation and study is anurgent need to propose Protection program and Update measures.I summarized the original data of Signal historic block through spot investigation,namely, I comprehensively evaluate and classified the style sheet features, streets,architectural features, age, number of layers, the use of status, culturalcharacteristics, surrounding environment, road traffic, green health, the situationsurrounding commercial activities in areas; secondly, I made suggestions andmethods in the usage, development and orientation of architectures from domesticand foreign experience; thirdly, I built a evaluation system of historic architecturesby referring the methods of foreign countries; Finally, I summarized thegeographical, political, cultural, economic and other conditions of Signal Hill historicblock and derived the potential of block’s development and made the initial planningintention based on the summarization of common patterns in refreshing historicalblocks in and abroad, in order to make useful exploration for the protection andupdate of the historic districts.
