In recent years, the booming renovation of city’s old district has brought an opportunity to revitalize the vitality of a important cultural legacy of city, named historical district. By adjusting and converting the original function of historical district, historical district becomes more suitable for the development and utilization of tourism, considered as one of the important means of renovation of historic district. At the same time, the renovation of historical district also joints the growing industry of cultural tourism, accelerating the transformation process of commercialization of the historical district. Under the above background, the commercial development not only regains the vitality of district and achieves the economic value, but also hurts the material and social cultural environment of historical district, owing to the pursuit of economic interests, the poor management and so on. For example, the environment of district pays more attention to business use function and functional meet of tourism supporting services. However, the emotional needs of the tour groups is ignored.This article, based on the above background, discovers the environmental elements which users can easily to inspire the emotion of physiological or psychological response, and explores the practical effects of these elements, namely that atmosphere. This paper uses theory of post occupancy evaluation, Carried out the subjective evaluation research of atmosphere of three representative commercial historical district under the condition of walking in chengdu. This paper also analyzes the reasons of relative prosperity or decay in some district on atmosphere, Finally this paper targeted put forward the design principles and countermeasures of improving atmosphere of the commercial historical district, in order to make it better close to the consumer psychology, so as to enhance the quality of cultural tourism.The paper is divided into five parts:The first chapter has introduced the research background, the research object and defined the concepts in the title, By collecting the literature material at domestic and abroad about the historic district renewal theory,theory of atmosphere,etc. These work can preliminary master research status, and also provide the theoretical support for the following research. The second chapter has analyzed the constituent elements of atmosphere of commercial historical district under the condition of walking, including the content of the constituent elements and their mutual relations. In the third chapter, we can further testing and refining the key factor of atmosphere by the participatory observation and questionnaire, etc. In the forth chapter, According to the refined atmosphere factor, we carry out two subjective evaluation questionnaire survey of the three research samples, Through the data analysis and sorting, we can sum up the main aspects of influencing atmosphere of commercial historical district under the condition of walking is as follows,:Architectural style, cultural characteristics, boundary environment and the quality of services. Paper summarizes the existing advantages and disadvantages of atmosphere of district under the condition of walking. In the last chapter, On the basis of the analysis of the above problems, the design principles and countermeasures of the improvement of atmosphere are put forward in this paper.
