| In the various connecting kinds of steel structure, the fillet weld connections arevery popular due to its simple structure and easy construction, and thus widely used inthe connection.But the fillet weld designs and calculations are mostly based onassumption, so the difference between the design calculations and capacity of the truestate has aroused most concern of many scholars.The fillet welded joints subjected to eccentric loads is a common form of theconnection,and many scholars have carried out research.But most of these studies wereaboat the fillet welded joints subjected to in plane eccentric loads,and little of studies forthe fillet welded joints subjected to out of plane eccentric loads.Approaches adopted incurrent design practice do not incorporate all aspects of behavior that the thrength ofthese joints subjected to out of plane eccentric loads,and this type of joints are describedas a “special-case†in current weld design tables provided by AISC. Fillet weldedcruciform joints subjected to out of plane eccentric loads were discussed in this paper.By quoted the latest test data of the fillet welded cruciform joints, using finiteelement analysis software ANSYS to build the model,the reliability of the model wasproved.The research shows that load eccentricity, the length of the fillet weld, weld legsize, the outer plate thickness and other parameters have a certain impact on the ultimatecapacity and ductility of joints.There is some harmonious relations among weld leg size,strength of materials and some parameters. The results of numerical analysis werecompared with the calculation values of current design specifications,and somequalitative commentaries were worked out. And recommendation on calculationmethod was given. |
