Nowadays, China is experiencing the rapid urbanization process, the commercialcenter district as embodiment of city’s image and construction standard develop veryrapidly, and the status of the city steadily rise. However, as the car ownership continuesincreasing, city’s traffic pressure is continuously increasing. As the most dynamicregion of the city, the traffic aggregation effect of the commercial center district isobvious, especially traffic problems. If mismanagement, that may extend the trafficproblems to the city periphery and the whole city center area.External traffic space as an important part of external space of city commercialcenter district, that is the medium of connecting city external space, and the dominantelement of the overall spatial framework of city commercial center district, is also theimportant embodiment of the quality of the commercial center district. With thedevelopment of urban form, social life and consumption patterns, the requirements forthe operation efficiency and quality of external traffic space in commercial centerdistrict is growing daily. Through research and analysis, the writer considers the conceptand strategy of “compact city” is the guiding significance for solving external trafficproblem of commercial center district. Therefore, the article starting from theperspective of urban design, on the basis of analysis of the external traffic space in thecommercial center district, combining with the related concept of the compact citytraffic and urban space form development, than propose five aspects of optimizationstrategy, these are transportation mode, traffic line, spatial structure, spatial patterns,service management and measures.The article is divided six parts, gradually analyze from background research,problem posing, concept lead-in, associated and oriented analysis, optimization strategyto summary.Part I-Background research (Chapter1): Background and problem that lead to thenecessary of using compact city related concept to optimize external space ofcommercial center district, then explain the research object, research purposes andsignificance, and establish research framework.Part II–problem posing (Chapter2): The main content of this part is that throughanalyzing the status, analyze evolution and characteristic of the external space incommercial center district, and put forward the problem of external space in commercial center district, providing the basis for the below analysis.Part III-the concept lead-in (Chapter3), through extracting of the coreconnotation from “compact city” and related theory, explaining the related theory of“compact city” apply to external space in commercial center district from three aspects:commercial centre district development goals, models and current problems.Part IV-associated and oriented analysis (Chapter4): This section mainlycombines related concept of “compact city” to analyze the external traffic space in thecommercial centre district, combined with current problems to obtainoptimization-oriented, and put forward five core elements through optimization. Thenadvance optimized orientation and principles on the basis of that.Part V-Optimization Strategies (Chapter5): the fifth section is based on theanalysis of fourth section, focus on five “core elements”, and put forward optimizationstrategies separately from five aspects: guidance public transportation,three-dimensional traffic diversion, creating three-dimensional complex space form,humanization and efficiency of service management facility, and use foreign anddomestic building to explain.Part VI-Summary (Chapter6): This section is the summary, make reflection andprospect on the research of this article.
