In order to improve the residential environment and relieve the energy crisis in rural areas, this project compiles <Technical regulations of small-scale ground source heat pump for heating/cooling in rural areas>, aiming at providing guidance for the development of shallow geothermal energy utilization, such as small-scale ground source heat pump, in rural areas. This paper analyzes some outstanding issues in the process of compiling the technical regulation. The paper first studies on the rural buildings, which lays the foundation for the technical regulations. The thermal comfort requirements of rural buildings are given after analyzing the difference between rural and urban buildings in terms of the surrounding environment, the building envelope, the living conditions, standards and habits. The research and calculation results show that it would be comfortable if the indoor temperatures stay between 26 ~ 30℃in summer, 14~18℃in winter. There are many forms to use shallow geothermal energy resources for cooling/heating the rural buildings. The three mentioned in this paper are: groundwater direct cooling, evaporative cooling and small scale ground source heat pump. The paper gives the applicable conditions of the three forms, by combining the basic data investigation with weather and hydrogeological conditions in different areas. The applicability and feasibility of the three forms in different areas are also analyzes in the paper. As a result, applicable areas of each form are given.Initial cost is the key factor restricting the development of shallow geothermal energy utilization in rural areas, so the economy problem is another important issue during the research. Economic analysis method is put forward and economic analysis for a specific project in Youhao Street Duliu town Jinghai county Tianjin city is given. The air conditioning system the project uses is combined groundwater direct cooling with small scale ground source heat pump, which is a typical example of shallow geothermal energy utilization in rural areas, so the economic analysis for the system plays an important reference role.
