Small LNG carrier is a potential and important way to distribute LNG in coastal andriverside cities when many reception stations were built in Chinese coastal sea ports. Itdemands develop new LNG carrier and its equipments especially for LNG costal distributionand it is different from long distant ocean shipment of LNG between different continents.Because costal shipment of LNG does not demand long storage time, it is suitable toapply sealed up pressure tank, which has lower cost and simpler structure and is easy tocomplete distribution process in coastal area within short distance.This paper introduces the background and significance about application of small LNGcarrier, reviewed the research on this issue both at home and abroad. Briefly introduces thephysical nature of natural gas, manufacture status in China and ship types of LNG carriersare also reviewed. Then we carried out more details on working out parameters for the partof LNG tank and its bench, including: optimized diameter and length,thickness of thewall and heat proof liner. Heat transfer process is also analyzed by using Fluent for the benchand the tank,its calculation result can be applied to improve design and maintenance of smallLNG carrier. Model sample is chosen as a LNG tank with volume of2000cubicmeter,using Fluent software to calculate and analyze Heat Transfer Process and PressureRising in case of full load. This paper also calculates safe shipping time for small LNGcarrier with effects of transport distance.
