Due to the extreme rain-snow-ice weather in the south early in2008, geologicalhazards increased obviously, mainly in forms of instability of rock slopes. The disastersposed a threat of lives and properties safety to people and caused a lot of loss toengineering of railway, highway, electric power and water conservancy. Hence, it’s veryimportant to study the stability of rock slopes in the extreme rain-snow-ice weather. Asa part of the key project ’Prevention Research of Geological Hazards in the ExtremeRain-snow-ice Weather’ and supported by ’Program for Changjiang Scholars andInnovative Research Team in University’, the paper studies the stability of rock slopes inthe extreme rain-snow-ice weather, the writer has analyzed the factors influencing therock wedge in rain-snow-ice condition and derived the formula used to calculate frostforce in the structural planes by elastic method. Also, the writer has done research of thewedge stability in rain-snow-ice condition, using both limit equilibrium method andfinite element simulation. Main work of this essay is as follows:1. Summarizing and researching the analysis method of rock wedges in normalconditions; considering the rain-snow-ice weather condition, analyzing the factorsinfluencing the rock wedge, which is foreshadowing of the analysis of followingchapters.2. Researching the existing method of frost force calculating in the Code; based onsome assumptions and the existing method, deriving a new method used to calculatefrost force in the structural planes by elastic method; then modifying the formulacalculating the safety factor of wedge using the method.3. Researching for influence factors of the wedge safety factor by using limitequilibrium method; finding out how the wedge safety factor changes when there isfracture on the top in different location and when the combination condition of the twostructure planes changes; revealing the reduction of wedge safety factor under waterpressure and frost force in the fractures; analysis the influence of strength parameter ofstructure plane to safety factor of the wedge.4. By using strength reduction method of the FEM, simulating an example of rockwedge in the extreme rain-snow-ice weather, realizing by finite element methodsoftware ANSYS13.0; doing research in the effects to the stability safety factor of rockwedge under rain-snow-ice weather; Doing comparative analysis of the wedge safety factors calculated by different method.
