Urban green space, as the main life support system of urban ecology, plays an irreplaceable function in the protection and restoration of urban environment, the promotion of the ecological environment quality and the maintenance of urban ecological balance.The urban green space system planning in China is relatively weak due to the long-term lagging of traditional green space construction. The administrators, planning personnel, and citizens all lack adequate understanding and systematic view for the green space system. The index system of green space is imperfect, which generally is limited to the ratio of green, green coverage rate, and public green space per capita, however these indicators reflect neither the green quantity nor the coupling relationship between the distribution, structure and function of the whole city green land system.This paper aims to provide a theoretical basis and technical support for urban green land construction for Baoding city via the investigation and evaluation of the urban green plant landscape mode in the built-up area.The ratio of green, green coverage rate, green area per capita, park area per capita, the dominance index, diversity index, evenness index, and the importance index of the affiliated green space within the working unit and residential areas, urban road and park green space are systematically analyzed and evaluated. The results are as follows:(1) The ratio of green, green coverage rate, green area per capita of Baoding are 19.6%, 23.4%, and 8.67 square meters respectively, whereas the criterion of National Garden City are 38%, 45%, and 12 square meters as the counterpart.The gaps are 48.4%,48%,27.8%. The results show that there is still a distance between Baoding and a National Garden City in the indexes of green space.(2) For the plant diversity index of the built-up area, that of the affiliated green space within the working unit and residential areas in Beishi District is highest (5.12), whereas lowest in the residential areas in High-tech Industrial Development Zone (3.77); that of road green space tops at the Lekai Street (3.31), thus bottoms at Hongyang Street (0.20); that of park green space is highest in the Botanical Garden (5.36) and lowest in the Zoo (3.75). The results show that the plant applications is relatively monotonous in the built-up area of Baoding, and there is often a single tree species in the working unit, the residential areas,the parks and the roads.(3) For the importance index in plants, poplar, willow, chinar, and Sophora japonica are of the highest in the road green space, which are 41.27521, 19.92438, 17.97305, and 14.17617 respectively. The results show that the local species have their obvious predominance in urban road green space of Baoding.(4) On the basis of comprehensive analyses and evaluations, optimal countermeasures to improve the construction of the city green land, from the aspects of tree species selection, plant configuration, etc., are advocated, and methodical indexes on the green land construction in the affiliated area of the working unit and residential zone are suggested, which provide theoretical references for the development direction and the overall planning on the urban green land construction of Baoding.
