The fragmentation elements of shrapnel warhead for the large middle caliber antiaircraftgun are distributed along the radial uniformly, when intercepting cruise missile other theaerial targets, Only parts of the fragments of the warheads killer airspace can play aneffective role to attack targets, and the utilization ratio of the elements is less than 20%. Howto effectively intercept the aerial targets such as cruise missile has been becoming one of thepriority areas of the air defense field for most countries. Swiss Oerlikon company researchand develop a new air defense anti-aircraft guns and ammunition named AHEAD, whoseparticular encounter way is to the air strikes targets through the warheads axial againstintersection, and releases a bunch of an intensive high-energy fragments in the front of thetargets. Thereby, it can improve the hit probability and damage efficiency on targets. This isthe axial enhanced prefabricated fragment shrapnel, which is as the universal type ofcontrolled ammunition for short. It as a new anti-aircraft ammunition for the end of airdefense and antimissile, which has the advantages of high interception efficiency, highcost-effectiveness and so on, compared with the traditional ammunition of radial fragmentwarhead .In this paper, the progress of detonation about an axial prefabricated fragment warhead issimulated and analyzed by theoretical analysis and method of numerical simulation. Theeffect progress of detonation products of columnar charging with shell to axial prefabricatedfragment is systematically analyzed. The research provides a theoretic foundation andtechnical support for this new type of anti-aircraft gun shrapnel design. This paper studies the dispersion characteristic of the warhead fragments in thedetonation load on the conditions of the different way of initiation (direct initiation, along theaxial direction bidirectional initiation, reverse initiation), the constraints of the differentthickness and material of the shell, and different material of prefabricated fragment, whichinclude the initial velocity, scattering angle and the kinetic energy of the fragments. According to the different schemes of the disperse characteristic of the fragment, the feasibility of themechanical damage and shock initiation damage caused for high-speed fragment tointercept cruise missiles is analyzed through numerical simulation, combined with theprinciple of classifying the damage levels of target of air strikes.
