China lies in a zone prone to earthquakes and has a huge population, widely distributed. But the quality of rural residential housing is generally too weak to resist the damages caused by earthquakes. The masonry housing, illustrated by the case of Beijing, account for90%of the total existing rural residential housing, which are lack of basic structures to resist earthquakes. Therefore, research on this type of rural housing for seismic reinforcement has a strong practical significance. This thesis is devoted to the seismic analysis on the masonry structures which are popular in rural houses of Beijing, covering the following aspects:1) Based on large number of field research on existing rural housing of Beijing suburbs, forms, characteristics and the problems of seismic of existing rural housing are analyzed. In order to find reinforcement measures suitable for the housing, common structural reinforcement methods and measures are introduced.2) By experiments of rural housing’s compressive test and shear test, compressive strength, shear strength, elastic modulus, Poisson ratio and other mechanical performance parameters of mud masonry have been obtained and the difference between mortar masonry and mud masonry are identified.3) Pseudo-static tests of brick wall bonded with mud is the main points of this thesis. The tests select the rural housing’s front wall bonded with mud as the test object and three prototype test wall with opening reinforced by different ways are designed. And failure mode, load and displacement, hysteretic curve, skeleton curve, stiffness degradation, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the three walls are analyzed and compared. From the test, conclusions can be drew as follows:the stiffness and the performance of deformation can be enhanced by the reinforcement measures of steel mesh-cement mortar; the stiffness and the strength were substantial increased by the reinforcement measures of steel window frames.Through the test, conclusions are drew that the existing rural housing’s earthquake resistant behavior can be effectively improved when seismic reinforcement measures of steel mesh-cement mortar and steel window frames are active together...
